This lab will make use sketching tools such as construction lines and geometric constraints. It will also employ feature tools, such as Revolve, Fillet, Extrude, Work Axis, and Work Plane. Note: Read all instructions before beginning, you might miss some hints if you dive in before reading.

Part A

  1. First read the steps below, then create the Rubber Handle Sleeve part for a Button Maker:

  2. Determine the missing dimensions in Figure 2 below, and write the appropriate values in the boxes. Use Figure 1 as a reference.

Figure 2: Complete the missing dimensions in the half-section view

  1. Start a new part. Change the units to inches by right-clicking on Part1 in the FeatureManager Design Tree, select Document Properties. Click on Units in the left-hand menu, then change to IPS (inch, pound, second). Click “OK” to finish.

Figure 3: Changing units

  1. Create a sketch according to the dimensioned drawing in Figure 2. Include a construction line to represent the axis of revolution at the center of the part. Note that you may change an object line to a construction line by clicking “For construction” in the options segment under Line Properties. Exit sketch when finished.

  2. Revolve the sketch a full 360 degrees: Click on the Features menu, then click “Revolved Boss/Base” as circled below. Select your sketch to revolve, and be sure the construction line is selected as the axis of rotation. If the preview looks acceptable, click the green check mark.

Figure 4: Revolve menu and preview

  1. Check that there is a large hole on one end of the handle, and a small hole on the other. If you do not have the small hole on one end, you must select a different location for the axis of rotation or double check your dimensions from Step 1.
